Training, Education, and Certificate Programs
The basic intent of the overall program is to develop knowledgeable and
skilled psychotherapists with a high degree of practioner-level ability in both
general clinical psychotherapy and Beckian Cognitive Therapy.

In addition to helping therapists in Turkey improve their knowledge and
skills in Cognitive Therapy, the training and supervision program organized
by Dr. Stroup will help satisfy the prerequisites for completing certification
by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (ACT) in the United States.

therapist must complete specified prerequisites, and then pass a

In order to be of benefit to all psychotherapists in Turkey who wish to
develop their abilities in this field, the program is organized in the following
stages and requirements for participation:


Basic Training in Clinical Therapy Skills (20 hours)

Mental Health filed professionals at the Bachelor and Masters degree levels
are eligible to apply for the program's first stage: Basic Training in Clinical
Therapy Skills.

This training includes fundamental instruction such as therapeutic skills, the
first clinical interview, clincal evaluation, diagnositic skills, crisis intervention,
and confidentiality/ethical subjects.

September-October:
Basic Course in Clinical Therapy Skills

November-December: Principles of Cognitive Therapy and CT with Depression

January-February: Cognitive Therapy with Anxiety Disorders

March-April: The courses for this period will be announced

    Supervision Programs will begin in September and be completed in June. Selection interviews and
    registration for supervision will be conducted July and August.

Supervision in Clinical Therapy Skills (40 hours)

Professionals with a bachelor degree in the mental health field, who are actively seeing patients, and who have
attended the Basic Training in Clinical Therapy Skills course are eligible to apply for Supervision in Clinical
Therapy Skills. Upon completion (with no absences or other deficiencies) of this training and supervision, a
completion certificate will be awarded.

Supervision in Beckian-Approach Cognitive Therapy (120 hours)

Professionals with, or currently undertaking a program leading to, a masters degree in the mental health field, who
are actively seeing patients, and who have completed the Basic Skills in Cognitive Therapy course are eligible to
apply for Supervision in Beckian-Approach Cognitive Therapy. Upon completion (with no absences or other
deficiencies) of this training and supervision, a completion certificate will be awarded.

Certificate of Training in Beckian-Approach Cognitive Therapy

In order to obtain a Certificate of Training in Beckian-Approach Cognitive Therapy, mental health professionals
must - in addition to being awarded the completion certificate for Supervision in Beckian-Approach Cognitive
Therapy - attend each of the following 12-hour Cogntive Therapy training courses, and must be evaluated as
having successfully accomplished all of the herein specified training and supervision requirements.

The additional required courses are:
  • Cognitive Therapy with Mood Disorders
  • Cognitive Therapy with Anxiety Disorders
  • Cognitive Therapy with Personality Disorders
    (Dr. Stroup may accept in the place of these courses Cognitive Therapy courses provided elsewhere
    that are assessed as accomplishing the same training/education purposes and objectives)
