Dr. Başak Demiriz
Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Demiriz went to the United States in 1991 to study psychology, receiving her doctorate in
Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology in Washington, DC;
her doctoral thesis was on "the emotional and social needs of exceptionally intelligent children."

She subsequently provided Individual, group, and family therapy and psychological testing for
children, adults, and families of various cultures from Virginia and three boroughs in New York
(the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan).
Dr. Demiriz completed her post-doctoral work at the Citrus Health Network in Miami, where she worked with children,
adults, and families suffering from psychiatric and behavioral disorders.

While in Miami, she also conducted psychological (personality and intelligence) testing, delivered mental status
reports, and acted as an expert witness in order to aid the courts in arriving at decisions in custody cases,

In February of 2008, Dr. Demiriz returned to Istanbul, where she works as a clinician in her office in the Nişantaşı
district of the city.

Additionally, Dr. Demiriz endeavors to contribute to the development of the science of psychology in Turkey by
providing supervision, training, and seminars in the fields of Clinical Psychology and Cognitive Therapy.

Psychiatrist
Dr. Türkçapar was born in 1966 in Kahramanmaraş. In 1990 he graduated with his doctorate from
the Hacettepe University Medical School. He completed his qualification as a psychiatrist in 1995,
and by 2000 had attained the academic title of Associate Professor of Psychiatry.

In 1997, Dr. Türkçapar obtained training in Cognitive Therapy from the Beck Institute in
Philadelphia, in the United States. In 1999, he went on to train at the Ellis Institute in New York in
2002 he was also certified by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (ACT) as a Cognitive Therapist, and later that same
year was selected as a Fellow in the Academy for his contributions to the field. In 2009, upon completion of further
training at the Ellis Institute, he was awarded the Advanced Certificate in Rational Emotive Therapy. Moreover, in
acknowledgement of his work in and contributions to the field, in 2002 Dr. Türkçapar was awarded the degree of
Master of Science, and in 2009 that of Doctor of Philosophy, in the field of Social Anthropology, by Ankara University.

Currently, Dr. Türkçapar serves as the Director of the 2nd Psychiatry Clinic at the Ankara Diskapi Hospital, and as a
director of the Ankara Compos Mentis Psychiatric Education and Research Center, Cognitive Therapy Education.
Born in Izmir in 1969, Dr. Karaosmanoğlu graduated with a medical degree from Ege
University in 1993. He completed his specialty in psychiatry at the Bakırköy Mental and
Nervous Disorders Hospital. After qualifying in his psychatric specialty in 1999, he opened
the PsikoNET Psychotherapy and Training Center in 2000, which he continues to operate.
After obtaining training and supervision in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dr. Karaosmanoğlu developed an interest
in Schema Therapy in 2002. Since early 2005 he has been providing training in this therapy approach’s principles
and practice. In 2003, Dr. Karaosmanoğlu founded PsikoNET Publishing, through which he has translated and
edited various books on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Schema Therapy.
After obtaining his education at Robert College and Istanbul University, Prof.
Dr. Sedat Özkan completed his qualification as a psychiatrist in 1984, in which
field he became an associate professor in 1986, and a full professor in 1993.
After working with a variety of universities in America and England, in 1997 he
established the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (CLP) Department in the
Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine.
Dr. Özkan is currently the chief of the Oncology Institute’s Psychosocial Oncology Science Branch. He is also the
President of the Turkish Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine Association, the Turkish
Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and Psychosomatics Organization.

Dr. Özkan has organized hundreds of research projects, meetings, panels, symposiums, and training seminars in the
fields of clinical psychiatry, CLP, and psychosomatic medicine. He has presented more than one hundred papers to
international scientific associations, as well as four books. His 1993 publication, “Psychiatric Medicine: Consultation-
Liaison Psychiatry,” is a leading book in the world of CLP. He has also produced more than 180 research papers,
and 22 booklets in the fields of psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine.
Sibel Usluer Erenel, MFT
Ms. Erenel is licensed as a family and couples therapist in the US state of California, and
a teacher of the Satir model of family therapy. She completed her master's degree in
psychological counseling and guidance at the Boğaziçi University. She also obtained a
master's degree in family, marriage, and child therapy, as well as school counselling, at
the Hayward campus of California State University. She acquired a license and the right to
practice family (including child, adolescent, and youth) and marriage (relationship)
therapy, and did so in the State of California at various institutions for twelve years.

Since 1993 she had provided more than 1000 interventions and sessions in child/adolescent and child (play)
therapy, individual (adult and adolescent), group, couples, and family therapy. She has provided family education,  
psychological guidance, and family therapy services for autistic children and children with a variety of developmental
challenges, and for their families. She has worked with families and children/youths in comprehensive youth services
and child exploitation prevention programs. In addition to providing hundreds of couples and spouse therapy
sessions, she offers divorce and post-divorce, new family establishment process, and child-family, couples, and
family services.    
Dr. N. Linda Fraim
Health Psychologist
Dr. N. Linda Fraim recieved her PhD from Walden University in Health Psychology in 2009.
Her dissertation research focused on Breast Cancer Awareness and Breast-Self Examination
frequencies among young women under the age of 35 in the Turkish Republic of Northern
Cyprus. In 2009, she opened Serenity Danismanlik where she provides a variety of
psychological support and psycho-social educational services for a wide range of chronic
illnesses. Serenity Danismanlik was established to fill the gap that existed in the field of health
psychology and help in the advancement of the field in Turkey.
