The Ishik Schools . . . "First, educate good people."
The Feyzi Sibyan school, predecessor to the Ishik Schools, was opened in Salonika on
14 December 1885 by Mr. Mumeyyiz Tevfik. Mustafa Kemal’s teacher, Mr. Shemsi,
also joined the Feyzi Sibyan school. And this is how the tradition of Turkish children’s
enlightenment at Ishik began.

Moving first to a building in Koska and then to Teshvikiye due to the Balkan War, the
school displayed great effort and dedication, and increased its contribution to the
nation’s education and instruction day by day.
This school, formed by one of the oldest foundations in Turkey, and which played so important a role in the
transition from the Ottoman Empire period to that of the Republic, took, with the approval of Ataturk, the
name of Ishik on 17 December 1934, the 49th annniversary of its establishment.

Forming education and training facilities at evey level beginning from the Ishik Pre-School up to the Ishik
University, this institution, established with the aim of contributing to the national education, has, alongside
of its Nishantashi Campus, produced gains for our national education with the additions of the FMV
Ayazaya Ishik Elementary School in 1986, and the FMV Ayazaya Ishik Middle School and High School in
1988, at the Ayazaya Campus.

This pioneering education Foundation took a first step in transferring its century of experience to the
Anatolian coast of Istanbul with the opening of the Erenkoy Ishik Elementary School in 2000.
Muvaffak Benderli Salon
Nishantashi Campus
Established on a site with nearly 3,500 square meters of open space,
and a total of 17,500 square meters of covered space, this is the first
campus of the FMV Ishik Schools.
As the school building in Beyazit began to become insufficient in size,
the school rented the Naciye Sultan Residence in Teshvikiye, and
settled here. After a short while this building was sold, and the school
took today’s form in a specially constructed building complex, thus
arriving at the condition of a highly modern educational institution.
The Ishik High School, Ishik Educational School, and Ishik Pre-school, together with the Feyziye Schools
Foundation Administrative Center, are located here in 4 connected buildings. Also found on this campus
are the Muvaffak Benderli Salon, the Sacit Oncel Conference Salon, two enclosed sport salons, two
open-air fields, laboratories, electronic (multi-media) courses, the Art Gallery, and a library with 23,000
books, 1250 CDs, and a wide range of magazines and other publications.
